Hi all. What was the match result and score today? Still waiting.

Don't forget us ex-pats - we need keeping up-to-date with matches.

Happpy St. Davids Day to all.
Taffy-dilly worn with pride all day and explained to the locals!

In a poor scrappy game Abertillery came out on top 12 - 5.

I'm sure that the team will admit the performance was one of the worst in the last four years, however a win is a win and its another four points in the bag, so there are reasons to be cheerful

Apologies for the delay - a server problem. The most dramatic ending perhaps seen at the Park in years since the Kevin Price Dunvant-defeating dropped-goal in 1995 I'd say- Tillery won 17-12. 12-nil with seven minutes remaining, Abercarn scored two tries in rapid succession to draw level before Jonathan Price scored for us in injury time. Full report now up on main site.

If (and it is still an if) Talywain's record is expunged, then the table would look like this - http://www.abertillery-rfc.co.uk/hypotheticaltable.html

On that basis, we will be promoted irrespective of next week's game because Nantyglo can only catch us on points with two bonus point wins and would have have one less win than us.

WRU regulations state - National League placings will be decided on the basis of League points gained in the season. Where teams have gained equal numbers of League points, the team with the most wins shall be given preference. If the number of wins is equal then the Club having recorded the most tries in the Season shall be given preference. If the number of tries is equal the points ‘for’ shall be divided by the points ‘against’ and the team with the highest factor shall be declared to have the better record.

Can anyone remember what happened to the points gained by teams who played us the year we failed to complete fixtures and if so, have the rules changed since?

Our record was expunged........ not that we played many games!

Last season Caldicot's record was expunged and they only failed to play one game, it could have had dire consequences for Gwernyfed as only one team was guaranteed promotion last term.  Confused

Dear Sec, any idea when we will hear the result of the WRU rules meeting on Talywain points?

I think I was at that game. Was that the season we gained promotion?
If I remember correctly, we then went away to Swansea and won there!!
Happy days David.

Great match - I reckon the most memorable of Abers for a long time.  Mind you, away at Neath two weeks before came close, then the aforementioned last minute drop goal at home vs Dunvant.  They were slippery customers - we should have been out of sight in that game.

The Swansea match was something else though.  21-6 down at half time with the ridiculous knock on from Harris - the ref was the only person in county who didnt see it.  I actually thought Dai Llew was going to burst.

When we started taking it through the forwards after half time they didnt want to know - Rob McCorduck got the first, then Picton rolled around the side of a pile-up and if memory serves we worked Alfie Harbison free on the left before Adam (?) winger latched onto a Mark Rossiter chip for the last.  It was actually 35-24 at one point until a last minute consolation for the whites.  Dunvant were gutted  Very Happy .  How we laughed.

(Name drop alert) I played squash in the ladders with Paul Arnold a few weeks later (lost convincingly - have you seen the length of his arms?) and he was clear that we had basically beaten them good and proper up front.  They lost an international fixture to Treorchy as a result the next year.  The whites were wondering where we got Wayne Ford from as well.  What a day.

Congratulation to everyone at the club on the culmination of all the hard work, looking forward to a feast of rugby on Saturday. Risca will be after our scalp you can be certain.

Excellent memory Simon of the Swansea game which was 13 years ago last weekend. Adam Richards was the name that escaped you, and it was my old friend Barrie Williams who may have failed to see a slight knock-on!! Shocked  Shocked
