Abertillery started the new campaign with a win against neighbours Blaina by 20 - 7. In a match comprising three 30 minute sessions, both sides rang the changes throughout. Session one saw Abertillery take a seven point lead witha try scored by Gareth Collier only for Blaina to snatch an equalising score at the whistle. Session two gave an opportunity to youth when Abertillery introduced many youth team players showing a glimpse of the future, ironically it took prop Chip Hale the oldest player for Abertillery to snatch an opportunist try ably converted by the reliable Darren Miles giving a end of session lead by 14 - 7. The third session changes seemed to be made by the minute, Abertillery kicked two penalty goals securing a worthy 20 - 7 win.
St Peter's Cardiff are our opponents in next Saturdays friendly at the park.
