Thanks Whitey for the good wishes.

The Green & Whites won 19-13 in a injury ridden game especially the second half.

Newport HSOBs won 13-7 against Rhymney so it's all down to Thursday evening.

Cwmbran Pld 22 Pts 39
Abertillery Pld 21 Pts 37
Newport HSOB Pld 21 Pts 37

Match report up tomorrow morning - I will try to clarify what the league rules are by then as well regarding positions dependent on wins, tries etc (Sec can you help here?) as it is obvious this could come into play on Thursday evening.

Thursday is going to be a bit of a restless evening  for those of us who rely on this forum for first news of results.  Confused

Being a pessimist, I have a feeling that we aren't going to get the result we need, especially given HSB's convincing win last week.

That said, a great credit to everyone involved this season. It has beena long hard slog and credit is due to make sure that we are still in with a chance of survival going into the last game!

And a thanks also to those who have posted updates on the forum and for the continual update of the website. It is much appreciated!

From the WRU Website:

National League placings will be decided on the basis of League points gained in the season.

Where teams have gained equal numbers of League points, the team with the most wins shall be given preference.

If the number of wins is equal then the Club having recorded the most tries in the Season shall be given preference.

If the number of tries is equal the points ‘for’ shall be divided by the points ‘against’ and the team with the highest factor shall be declared to have the better record.

Glad that computing/mathematical education of yours has found a use at last! Wink

Since both we and the OBs have eight wins, then a draw would keep Cwmbran (with 9 wins) up whatever unless both sides score four tries to also grab a bonus point which would send Cwmbran down.

If there is a win for either side, they stay up.

If there is a draw, OBs seem to be in pole position as they have apprarently scored three more tries than us accoriding to the WRU website. If we draw scoring three tries to none, we would be better off that them because of a much better F/A points ratio.

So a win, a 3-try to nil or a 4 try-draw is what we need to stay up essentially.

Hope all that makes sense.

It's a shame that 'league' points don't mean exactly that.

If it did then teams level on 'total' points would have wins AND draws taken into account, with bonus points only used to decide placings after 'league' points have been taken into account.

Never liked bonus points anyway..........

If the team play with as much determination and heart as they did on Saturday then we will win and stay up and trying to be objective as possible and not letting my heart rule my brain I say we will win and Houdini like we will peform the great escape from relegation.
As I am in London on Thursday it is touch and go whether I get to The Park in time so it will be an anxious evening for me awaiting the result but go lads - you can do it.
You have done some marvellous things this season so believe in yourselves and we will win.
Go Aber, go.
By the way Dr. Dai - great to see you back and thanks for the great match reports that you write regularly with great style and verve.
They are a great help to us exiles who can't get down as much as we would like to - well done and thanks very much.
Ian
