Abertillery promoted in emphatic style

The green and whites achieved their aim of promotion yesterday at Oakdale when they won 51-14.

The team and supporters were exuberant at the end of this final match of the season which saw the celebrations start at the final whistle.

WRU representative Mal Beynon presented the trophy after the game to captain Ieuan Brooks and his fellow team mates.

Well done to all the players in the squad for a well-deserved success and for playing some of the most attractive rugby I have seen any Green & Whites side play for many years. You have certainly put the smile back on the supporters' faces and restored the club's pride. Thank you very much - you have made the last eight months a pleasure.

The coaching, management and associated staff have been excellent and professional and deserve our thanks as have the committee in giving their committed support - that helps things on the pitch greatly. I would like to give thanks to Haydn Matthews for ensuring my trouser pockets do not require sewing through carrying all that loose change. I am sure Alun Williams would have enjoyed yesterday greatly and what a great pity he is no longer with us.......

The fans have played their part too with the superb unswerving support and the camarderie has been really special.

Highlights of the season for me - the last minutes at Chepstow when we won that game after a fightback with the penalty try which in essence won us the title and the sheer quailty of the game between us and Gwernyfed at the Park. The standard of the rugby played by Chepstow, Gwernyfed and us has been a great credit to the division. It may be that Gwernyfed will still join us next season. I am sure Chepstow will be there or thereabouts next season - one final note on them: They to my mind were the most hospitable club we visited this season unlike one or two others....

As for the Green & Whites, we now have to step up to the next mark. I am sure we can hold our own and again there will be sides giving their all to defeat us. It will be a challenging season to say the least but I am already looking forward to it!

Finally, we as supporters can ensure we build on this season by working throughout the summer. I heard some great ideas yesterday for doing projects at The Park. I am happy to get involved in that. I will be putting information out on the main site relating to the activities throughout the summer so keep in touch.
The Green Man

First post for me - simply brilliant lads, I have joined the Green and White fold and can honestly say my hangover is a cracking one!
SCRUMDOWN

What a ride these few years has been!

I was in Llandovery back those years ago to watch Llandovery win to send us down from Div 1 where Abertillery fans outnumbered the other two teams! we were not playing just watching our destiny in others hands! A few years later I was putting on an Abertillery kit to make up the numbers on the bench so we could play the first game of the season - this was the sad year we left the league...

But then on Saturday we held our heads high once more - it does not matter it was only the Div 5 title but to us it was the Heinken cup, the triple crown , the grand slam and the world cup all rolled into one!!

What ever happens in the future this town has been made proud by a team that has reformed and risen - Well done to Supporters, players and committee alike it has been great being on the journey.

Now I want to travel 1st Class on this journey back to the top! - Haydn I want Pimms from now on the supporrtes bus along with hot luxury nibbles.

WELL DONE ALL
