Club Records and interesting analysis - a good read!

Currently I'm constructing a database of Abertillery RFC playing records starting with season 1946/47, it offers some interesting reading.

Howabout season 1973/74, we reached the quarter-finals of the cup with wins against - Risca (H), Crosskeys (H), Aberaman (H), Tonyrefail (A) and Neath (H) before falling to eventual winner Llanelli 16-3 at the park.

During that season we played English giants - Gloucester (H) 12-12, Saracens (H) 10-9, Wasps (A) 6-11. Rosario from Argentina (H) 16-12 and Racing Club Paris (H) 15-12

We scored 66 points against both Risca and Cambourne, tries were only worth four points then! Our worst defeat 36-3 at Aberavon.

We did the treble over Crosskeys, the double over Newbridge and squared one each against Ebbw Vale.

The playing record was P48 W31 D2 L15 F769 A539

The captain was Welsh trialist Robert Harris, and there were 27 on the committee under the Chairmanship of Ron Jones indeed Mike Brewer took his place on the committee then as he does today!

Our record against English clubs was always pretty good if I remember correctly because in my travels I remember watching Aber Play Saracens in London and winning, going to Moseley in Brum (but I can't remember an Aber win at The Reddings) but I think we turned them over at The Park when they had their three internationals).
We beat Bristol on Boxing Day in the late 60s and regularly caused London Welsh grief at Old Deer Park and if my memory serves me right Aber's old winning record margin was against Nuneaton by some 77 points - cos I was there!!
And we used to beat Exeter, Esher, Met Police regularly
