Info neededWhilst on a recent visit to Australia I was shown several items belonging to the grandson of a John `Chick` James who played for Abertillery around 1907-08
There was a medallion with the inscription on the rear "Abertillery RFC Mon League Champions 1907-08 J.James` and also 2 rugby shirts, one a red Welsh shirt bearing the number 9 and the other was a white shirt with a red badge containing a leaf motif and welsh 3 feathers motif.
Does anyone have any information about John James or any of the items?
(I do have photographs of all of the items)

Chick JamesIve had a look at the Abertillery centenary book and found reference to "Chick James" representing the clun in a Monmoushire trial during the championship season of 1907-08. This championship entitled to them to play Australia the folloeing season again his name appears in the aber side for this game. There is no reference in the Fields of Praise (the Welsh centenary book) of him playing for Wales

still puzzled about the other shirtThanks Melvyn for the info. Sorry I didn't get back sooner but my PC has been `off line` for a while. I'm still puzzled about the other (white) shirt though .. It bears a red shield badge with a white diagonal line. The top half has what looks like an Oak leaf and the bottom is the Welsh 3 feathers design.
Any ideas?

Chick JamesMike -Iv'e made some enquiries and it seems that Chick also played for Pontypool before going north to the other code, my contact thinks that the other shirt may be RL associated. He suggest contact with Robert Gate a rugby league historian. Unfortunately he has no direct contacts details but suggests you may find him through enquiries@rfl.uk.com
