Nelson 9 Abertillery BG 14

What a roller coaster ride we're having at the moment. A massive high with the emphatic win at the park against Croesyceliog, followed with the low with the inexplicable poor performance against Gwernyfed and now back on a high with this latest win against high flying Nelson.

In wet and miserable conditions one could have expected the 'green and whites' supporters to also be suffering with low expectations when we could only muster seventeen fit players for this encounter. Once again however the commitment was back with a vengence and the Abertillery pack were magnificent even when down to fourteen men through a sin-binning.

During a first half playing up the quite substancial slope and with a stiff breeze blowing across the pitch things didn't get off to a very good start with Nelson kicking an early penalty goal, however confidence rose as inexplicably the home team on many occasions seemed to opt for the wrong choices and threw away chances. The Abertillery eight were getting on top in both scrum and line-out and all Nelson could muster for all the territory was a further three points through a dropped goal leaving Aber with a mere six point deficit at the break.

The second half was a different story with our lads dominating and tries coming from 'nearly' fit again captain Adam Pegler and substitute back row Andrew Penny both converted by Chris Stevens. Nelson threw everything into attack but were thwarted by the astute 'green and white' defence (that went missing last week) they did however salvage a bonus point with nearly the last kick of the game when a second dropped goal was converted.

Pontypool Utd now next Wednesday lets hope for another gritty performance and who knows we seem to perform better against teams at the top end of the table!

Excellent result lads ! The team must of learnt by lastweeks drubbing that its not a nice feeling and returned this week back to their commited selves and notched up another fine win away at nelson.

Its pontypool utd up next which seem to be firing hot and cold at the moment and if the team play to their potential anything can happen.

                                        well done yesterday lads !
SCRUMDOWN

If anybody has Twitter who gets to games post their details here so we can be their friends and we can then get scores updated at half time etc.

Was this almost the same set of players that played against Gwernyfed - difficult to be believe it was!?  Surprised A great win and you could see the determination of all the boys to get the W.

If we can put in the same drive and commitment for the remaining nine games, then we should get enough points to stay up. The games against the three around us will be crucial but it would be very useful to pick up the sort of unexpected results such as yesterday, for example against Garn, Pill and Pontypool Utd.

Well done lads and also to the Tillery supporters for cheering on the team in good numbers again.

Very well done to the team on a marvellous result after the poor showing at Gwernyfed.
I must admit that it was with some trepidation that I rang the Hon. Sec on Saturday at 4 o'clock to get the result but what marvellouse news - oh me of little faith!
Decided that paternal duties took precedence this week as I went to support my two lads and it was a great consolation to hear of Aber's result especially as my sons' team lost in the last ten minutes (even if one of them got a try).
Was hoping to get down to The Park on Wednesday but I am away on business which is unfortunate so here's wishing the team great success.
Come on Aber and well done the lads.
Go Aber, go
Ian
