Abertillery were 3 nil up just prior to the interval when Darren Miles scored a brilliant individual try from his own half and then he set up Aled Penn for another moments later for 15-0 half time lead. After the break the big Cwmbran pack were on top in the tight although Tillery forwards were superb in the loose. A try half way through reduced the deficit to 15-5 before they got a converted try two minutes from the end of normal time to set up a very very tense finish. Tillery's pack though saw out the game on the offensive to prevent another home score to gain a vital win.
