Sad Announcement

It is with great sadness that I have to report the passing away during the early hours of yesterday morning of Life Member Mike Brewer. Mike had been a stalwart of the club for many years and will be greatly missed by all who knew him, our deepest condolences go to his wife Val and the family. A minutes silence will be observed prior to today’s match.

At the moment we are not aware of any funeral arrangements.

I am very sad indeed to hear of Mike's passing and wish to send Val and the family my personal condolences.

When I first joined the committee back in 1989, Mike was one of the first people to welcome me on board and I am proud to have known him since that time. My abiding memory of Mike will be his laugh - he always could see the funny side of a game even when we had been on the wrong side of a thumping! That though belied a keen knowledge of the game and his analysis of games was more often than not spot on.

It is with great regret that the club announces that life member and former committee man Mike Brewer passed away on 31st October 2008.

Mike was almost certainly the longest serving committee man in Abertillery's 125 year history having been on the club's committee since the mid-1960s. He stepped down a couple of seasons back and was honoured by the club for his service by the award of life membership.

Small in stature but very big in heart, Mike was liked and respected by all and when the club travelled around the grounds of Welsh rugby, there was always someone who knew Mike and he could be seen in animated conversation with them, more often than not laughing aloud, a sign of his infectious humour.

The club sends its condolences and sympathy to Val and the family at this sad time.

There will be a minute's silence before the game against Rhymney as a mark of respect and in memory of Mike Brewer,  a man who was Green & White through and through.

Funeral arrangements will be published on the site once they are known.
