Final promotion places up for grabs

Promotion will be the only thing on the minds of players from eight clubs across South Wales, as they prepare for the final games of the season in the WRU National League programme on Saturday.
Beddau and Loughor will be the venues for the play-off matches to determine which two teams join the four Division Three champions- Brynmawr, Ammanford, Bedlinog and BP Llandarcy- in graduating to Division Two next season.
The four runners up from the Division Three leagues- East, West, South- East and South-West- were drawn out of the hat by the WRU to create fascinating games.
South-West runners-up Aberavon Quins will face Gilfach Goch, of South-East, at Beddau, while West runners-up Cardigan will meet Eastern rivals Abergaveny at Loughor.
The race to join Division Five champions Crumlin (East), Burry Port (West), Porth Quins (South-East), Betws (South-West) and Aberavon Green Stars (South-Central), as well as the best of the runners up from those five divisions, Ystradgynlais, will end at Dunvant and Blackwood.
The draw sees West runners up Cefneithin face South-Central runners up Porthcawl at Dunvant, while the second place side from the East, Chepstow, will face South-East runners up St Joseph’s at Blackwood.
The matches will be played under WRU Challenge Cup rules, which means that if the scores are level at the end of the game the winners will be determined by the following criteria:
1. The team that has scored the most tries
2. The team that has scored the most converted tries
If a winner can still not be determined then the game will go into extra time (10 minutes each way).
If the scores are still level then points 1 and 2 will be revisited.
If there is still no winner then the promotion place will be determined on the toss of a coin.
We'll want to win the division next season not come second!!!

...now?
Or was this play-off business known throughout the season? If not then how the 'heck' (insert swear word of choice here) can the WRU get away with goalpost moving yet again? Is it really a case of "oops, didn't know how many teams there were in the lower divisions, abacus broke in september 07, only just got it back from the abacus mender - they've inserted a new bead on one of the wires, bugger, we'll have to re-structure the divisions again..." or is it (possibly) that some favoured club was about to face relegation?
So maybe more a case of "We can't have those lovely boys from (insert hated club of choice here - 'Dunvant' for me [long story, I live in Swansea, work it out...]), so we'd better cook up some new structure/criteria (delete as appropriate) a bit quick".
Call me a conspiracy theorist but... |

Any idea of the final list of teams we will be facing next season in Div.3 East - just out of interest?.
I tried to find out by buying my usual weekly copy of "Wales On Sunday" to see who was up from Div 3 and who came down but all I got was some soccer tables which was not very helpful at all.

The WoS and the WRU web site can't even get their tables right! so goodness knows who will be coming down.
Abergavenny won their play-off match so Brynmawr and Abergavenny go up to division 2.
Although verbally we've been told that we've been promoted i've still to receive written confirmation! |
