After the frustrations of the last match against Tredegar Ironsides you would have thought that we would enter the match against division 3 high fliers Abergavenny with some trepidation, not so however a super showing by the lads once again confirm my view that given better opposition we always seem to up our game.
I don't wish to be disparaging about opponents such as Ironsides and other teams in the lower half of the division 4 table but opponents such as Abergavenny are a major step up and are a team that like to play good rugby.
I feared for our team in the early exchanges yesterday evening when we fell to an early ten point deficit and were unable to secure any ball, whether this led the visitors into complacency we will never know however as our set piece play suddenly took off with our scrum taking the visitors apart things gradually turned around.
Milo slotted a penalty and conversion to a Craig Meredith try to level things before some exhilarating play saw the Green and Whites storm into the lead with an Aled Penn try converted by Milo who also kicked a further penalty goal early in the second half. The division 3 outfit stormed back and exerted pressure on the Abertillery line prior to the referee somewhat prematurely award a penalty try which was duly converted. Youth outside half Chris Stevens added a further 3 points from a penalty goal to leave Abertillery with a worthy 23 - 17 win.

Not a bad result Nationally either was it?
Now, will France slip up against Italy today??
If not, all eyes on the Millenium Stadium next week. |
