'just returned from Rhiwbina to see your result. Top class. The results today leave things wide open. We obviously hope to secure promotion and, whilst the Rhiwbina crowd are fine people, it would be great to renew friendships in Division 3 if we can both get through the run in without mishap - best of luck.

What a kind and thoughtful gesture. It would indeed be a great sight to see Aber and GRFC contesting yet again in a higher division.
I'm sure that the other Abertillery BG followers would join me in saying that GRFC certainly derserve their place as Champions.
We must just now hope that Aber can cement second place with a good end to the season. |

Thanks for the kind views, Gwernyfed must now surely be up and deservedly so..... we're still gutted to have lost both games by that single point though. As you say it would be great if we can keep up with you and achieve promotion again this season repeat fixtures would i'm sure once again prove to be the highlight games of the season with no quarter asked or given!
We're now back in the position of our destiny being in our own hands, win our remaining matches preferably with bonus points and we'll be there so fingers crossed and continued good form of the team and we'll see you in division three.

Thanks to the kind words from the Gwernyfed chairman - much appreciated and I hope we will be locking horns in Div Three East next season. The Talgarth side look to have deservedly achieved that now as champions after a thumping win at Rhiwbina, so well done.
As I understand it, the run-ins are as follows, which means with a lead over Nantyglo and Rhiwbina (it looks like Llandaff are probably out of it), the ball is our court now, so let's not lose it:
Nantyglo:
Llandaff - h and a
Gwernyfed - h
Rhiwbina - a
Brynithel - a
Abertillery:
Abercarn - h
Talywain - h and a
Risca - h
Brynithel - h
Rhiwbina:
Nantyglo - h
Brynithel - h and a
Tredegar I - a
Machen - h
Risca - a
Llandaff:
Nantyglo h and a
Tredegar I - h
Machen - h
Risca - a |

Division 4 East
Leading Positions
P W D L B Pts
Gwernyfed 18 17 0 1 11 79
Maximum Potential Points - 99*
Abertillery 17 13 1 3 7 61
Maximum Potential Points - 86
Nantyglo 17 12 1 4 9 59
Maximum Potential Point - 84*
Rhiwbina 16 11 0 5 11 55
Maximum Potential Points - 85*
*Rhiwbina and Nantyglo are yet to play at Rhiwbina so points will be dropped by one side - 26th April. Nantyglo also entertain Gwernyfed on 19th April, so again in that fixture points will be dropped by one side.
I reckon that Gwernyfed are already up and will also certainly be champions. Two wins in their final four games would guarantee that.
The maths is simple for us - if we were to win every game with a bonus point as well we will go up in second place. That will not be easy against sides who will desperate to prove a point at the bottom (Abercarn and Talywain [2 games]), a local derby against an undoubtedly fired-up Brynithel, and Risca, who were very tough opponents indeed at the Stores Field earlier in the season, when we sneaked home, and have been improving. Risca also have to play Rhiwbina. Nevertheless, our destiny is our own now and if with some luck and the great application, skill and commitment seen yesterday and in recent weeks, we can do it.
C'mon the Green & Whites! |
